Information Collection and Use
We only collect the information that you have explicitly provided through the survey, we do not collect any extra information such as IP addresses or browser information. The geographic data we collect is only identifiable to the Zoom-Level 12 tile (roughly the area of a medium-sized city).
The realtime results page located at https://osmlab.github.io/census/results/ shows the aggregated results of the survey for the community to view. Result data is dynamically aggregated to show a minimum of two users for any given area so that no single user’s information is ever presented in detail. In areas where only one user has responded to the survey, data is aggregated to 200 miles.
OpenStreetMap US will use this information to conduct research on the makeup and mapping behaviors of the community. This will be done in partnership with academic and community research partners.
Any and all findings released using data from this survey will be anonymized and/or presented in the aggregate.
The survey results that you provide are stored on a secure Amazon server.
If you expressed interest in participating in a larger demographics survey, we may contact you through the openstreetmap.org messages platform.
